How to Add a Main Category in OpenCart

In this guide, we’ll walk through the steps to create a main (top-level) category in your OpenCart store to organize your products effectively.

Steps:

  1. Log in to your OpenCart admin panel.
  2. From the sidebar menu, go to Catalog → Categories.
  3. Click on the Add New button (the "+" icon at the top).
  4. In the General tab:
    • Enter the name of the category – e.g., Clothing or Electronics.
    • Optionally, add a description that will appear when users visit the category page.
    • You can upload an image for the category if you like.
  5. In the Data tab:
    • Make sure the Parent Category field is left empty, as this is a top-level category.
    • Set the sort order (optional).
    • Set the status to Enabled.
  6. Go to the SEO tab to add a custom SEO URL if desired.
  7. Click Save.

You have now successfully created a main category in your OpenCart store!
